Transportation Guide to Nagoya University

There are many subway lines in Nagoya City. We recommend the use of subway for transportation in the city. The closest station to Higashiyama Campus is "Nagoya Daigaku (M18)" on the Meijo Line. The Sakata Hirata Hall is just a minute away from the station.

To Subway Nagoya Daigaku Station

1. From Central Japan International Airport, “Centrair”

At Central Japan International Airport Station in the airport, take the Meitetsu Train and get off at Kanayama Station. It takes about 25 minutes (by Rapid Limited Express), and costs 810 yen. There are a variety of destinations, but every train stops at Kanayama Station. However, although all the trains are called “Express” (there are four types of “Express”), some are actually “Local”, and take much longer time. We advise you to take “Rapid Limited Express (fastest)” or “Limited Express (second fastest)”. Kanayama Station is the second stop for Rapid Limited Express, and the seventh stop for Limited Express. The both types are operated in every 30 minutes in the daytime. (Operating hours, approx. 5:30–11:00.) The ticket for a reserved seat (called “μ-ticket”) costs 360 yen, and it is available at the ticket counter. (We recommend to buy it, since sometimes all seats in a faster train are reserved ones.)

At Kanayama Station, walk to the Subway Kanayama Station (station number M01/E01) and take the Subway Meijo Line (counter clockwise direction) to the Nagoya Daigaku Station (M18). It takes 20 minutes, and costs 270 yen. In the daytime, subways come in every 10 minutes for the Meijo Line.

If your first destination is the city center (Sakae area), instead of Nagoya University, then at Subway Kanayama Station take the Subway Meijo Line (clockwise direction). It takes 7 minutes, and costs 200 yen. The shuttle bus from Airport to Sakae area is also available.

2. From JR Nagoya Station

First, take the Subway Higashiyama Line from the Subway Nagoya Station (station number H08) to the Motoyama Station (H16).

Then, transfer to the Subway Meijo Line (clockwise direction) and get off the Nagoya Daigaku Station (M18). It takes about 35 minutes, and costs 270 yen. In the daytime, subways come in every 5 minutes for the Higashiyama Line, and in every 10 minutes for the Meijo Line.

If you use a taxi to the Nagoya University directly, it takes about 30 minutes (average), and costs about 2,500 yen. Please specify the destination as “Subway Nagoya Daigaku Station”.

3. From Sakae Area

First, take the Subway Higashiyama Line to the Motoyama Station (station number H16). Then, transfer to the Subway Meijo Line (clockwise direction) and get off the Nagoya Daigaku Station (M18). It takes about 30 minutes, and costs 240 yen. In the daytime, subways come in every 5 minutes for the Higashiyama Line, and in every 10 minutes for the Meijo Line.
